Shima Borzouie a master’s student in metabolomics, expressed interest to join the Alberta Food Metabolome Project. Prior to pursuing her M.Sc. at the University of Alberta, she got her bachelor’s degree in agronomy and plant breeding at the University of Tehran.
Shima is exploring her interests in metabolomics and metabolite profiling and a variety of analytical technologies, including the NMR, HPLC and GC-MS for high-throughput characterization of metabolites. Shima’s research looks at identification and quantification of metabolites, new components and nutrient composition of Alberta-grown produce and this information will be made available through the Alberta Food Composition Database. "Metabolomics is my passion. I’ve always wanted to work on projects that would benefit human health and society’s growth", says Shima.
