Dr. Matthias Lipfert joined Dr. Wishart's research group in October 2017 as a Post-Doctoral Fellow. He completed his PhD in Organic Chemistry in the Otto Diels-Institute for Organic Chemistry, Kiel University, Germany in July 2017. During his PhD he designed a stabilizing and switching module for alpha helical proteins using the Trp-cage mini-protein. This module was used to alter the structural properties of alpha helical antifreeze proteins. He also implemented and analyzed experiments for NMR-based structure determination of small molecules and proteins.
Currently, Matthias works on improving NMR methods for automated metabolomics analysis. He is also involved in designing novel compounds to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
