Jenna Poelzer is currently working towards a Bachelors of Science in Medical Laboratory Science at the University of Alberta. During her recent ten-month practicum she gained experience performing standard clinical laboratory practices in the areas of hematology, clinical chemistry, histology, transfusion medicine, and microbiology. This included handling biohazardous specimens, electrophoresis of protein and DNA, and extraction methods for HPLC. She has worked as a summer student for the Wishart Lab since 2012. Her laboratory duties are assisting in experiments analyzing biofluids and plant materials by HPLC and GC-MS. Her computer lab duties are extracting data regarding urine metabolomics, SMPDB pathways, and FooDB.
